Well it seems plausible now bionics with the leaked 5.7.893 update can now get back to stock. Afterwards they then can install the 5.5.893 OTA and the new .901

Information is in this thread: Getting back on the OTA update path - RootzWiki few people are claiming success. I haven't tried this. I have been following this thread for the last few hours waiting for others to claim that it is sucessful.

Steps it seems to me is:

1. Restore back to .886 then option 1 to forever root.

2. Install the original stock modem in stock recovery http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21566851/Phone/radio.zip

3. While rooted and usb debugging on, install this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/54323236/5T0ck886.rar

After step 3 some people could no longer boot and then did step 1 again

4. The 5.5.893 OTA would now install successfully

So if I do this and then repeat step 1, I should be able to boot into android then get the OTA or should I just download the OTA if it's posted here?

I'm not sure, hopefully someone knows. I'm only on .894 system because of the th3ory rom, but everything else is .893.

hmm - so it's basically replacing the boot image with the 886 one evidently?

anybody running 5.8.894 want to try it? (at your own risk!) :)

I did see people over at rootzwiki bork there phone doing this because all the bloatware wasn't there. I think a member that we have on here didn't have zumocast, webtop has to be there too.

I think it would work. You are flashing the kernel here.

You should be fine as long as you created a stock backup file. Before moving to any theory rom, I created a backup right out of the box. When the last 5.5.893 update came out about 2 weeks ago, I reverted back to stock to accept the OTA and then backed up that as a separate file. I returned to Theory with a full wipe. You can flip flop back and forth between theory and stock only if you made the stock backups and do full wipes in between.

I am holding off on the .901 since it was pulled and another OTA will be out soon.

Yes, I think I do have a backup. I will definitely check before trying this.

To anyone that wants to try this. Definitively make sure you know everything you are doing. Make sure you are well prepared and have plenty of time available. Make sure you have everything you need. This is not for the weak minded. I though I totally screw my phone up. Luckily I was able it get it to a state to where I could boot back into the OS. I was at work doing other things at the same time and totally rushed it. There are lots that can go wrong with this.
