a nice long talk with verizon

I called today to ask about the software updates for the Razr. I'm pretty ticked that the phone was released with so many little issues. The issues I presented included the dropped connection failure to reconnect, internet radio app failure and sky view compass problem.

In short while they were nice and even called Moto for info, I got no solutions. I did get some useful info however.

There us no December fix for gingerbread. Moto plans to go straight to ics.

ICS is planned for JANUARY! no definite date as it is carrier specific. I kinda view this as I'll believe it when I see it but it may keep me from pitching a fit over the nexus - which has it's own issues.

Yeah, the phone does have its fair share of nuisances, but it seems every phone does after just being released.

Verizon definitely ranks high in customer service for me. Just went in there to replace my razr with a new one (old one had bad battery it seemed), and I was in and out of there pretty quick.

Looking forward to ICS too!

I say let the Nexus guinea pigs work out the bugs before passing it on to the rest of us. Let them do the grunt work so the rest of us can reap the benefits.

Everything I have read and been told by VZW says and points to the release of ICS in January as well. Hopefully, that will remain true. I have had no major issues with my phone in the few weeks I have had it. I can only imagine how much of a beast it will be when it does have ICS on it!! dancedroid

I am honestly not wanting ICS just yet because I'm sure it's loaded with bugs. I like my Razr the way it is, apart from the few bugs. That's the reason I called today. I just want gingerbread fixed! ICS can come a few more months down the road for me so long as it's bug free when it gets here.

There's nothing more annoying than hitting a button and watching it do NOTHING! Why Moto released a phone with useless buttons makes no sense. They knew the internet radio button didn't work.

Pardon my ignorance, but what internet radio button?

I found out yesterday that my HDMI port is messed up. When you plug it in you have to push it over towards the power button so it will work. If you just sit it down it will go black. The bad thing though is I don't want to get one that has more problems than mine. Plus I don't want to get one that has already been brought back because of problems. I bought a new phone, not a used one, so if they can't get a new one out of the box and switch me out I'm going to get more than upset and they want like me when i get upset!! Hahaha, just saying.

We've all been mislead by various reps before. I know for a fact that a test release of software is coming, and Im certain its not ICS, and it doesnt make sense to release a patch only to release a new OS such a short time later.

I'm not so sure that is true...whenever I got a major update on my og Droid I almost always got little patch updates just before the big one hit....

Actually, it makes perfect sense. Why compile a full ROM, host it, push it out to all owners, and then try to troubleshoot one or two issues you are testing, and have every owner of your device pissed off? Its much easier to test modules of the ROM in small batches and troubleshoot BEFORE you incorporate them into the full ROM and push out.

If you're talking about the internet radio on the music player than your phone is messed up. Mine works great.

I agree with you on the not wanting ICS just yet. Really worried that Motorola will screw it up and we won't get updates timely. I'd almost rather just stick with GB. Maybe they won't make it a pushed OTA update and will give RAZR owners the option.
