No not necessarily. You have to look at the description of the application. Some apps are ONLY for rooted users while some say Dont work on Droid. If there is no clarification then yes it should be compatible. Beware because some will also say "Does not work with 2.0" or "Does not work with 2.1" and if they say that then it wont work for you.
