BBM can't communicate with non BB devices currently so, no.

As for what's coming down the road -- check the rumor mills if you really want rumors. There was discussion regarding release of BBM on other platforms.

Yes there is going to be. I read somewhere that RIM is releasing bbm on multiple mobile platforms. No word on release date though

As slow as RIM is to get anything released these days, I would probably just get your blackberry freinds to use google talk or one of the many cross-platform chat applications that are available.
