A little confused about sound

So I have been with the RAZR Maxx for a while. I got this one cause it died on me.
Anyway, so I like my music. I like to control it. I wanna change it and shape it as I see fit. Why am I having so much trouble finding out how to do this on this phone?

Can someone help me out please?

I believe you will need an app to what you want. There are quite a few at the Play Store.

When I was listening with the included headset everything sounded as if had injected helium. Not cool. There was some bass but every voice had a squeak to it.

Go to Music app. Settings adapt audio. Plug in headphones and try making adjustments
