A Convert to the Church of Droid

Hello All,

It's your friendly neighborhood Mad Ninja PhD™ with an introduction message. I'm a recent convert to the Droid. I'd been a Blackberry user primarily but after having read and seen so much about the Droid I just had to try it out. I've had mine all of a couple of days and I am totally enamored. I haven't the foggiest with what to do. I want to get the most out of my Droid experience which has brought me here to this fine community.

I hope to learn more about this fabulous device o' mine, my first droid being a Droid 2 as the X was too big and the Incredible too light for my liking, and be able to pass that along to the next convert. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Regards,

The Mad Ninja PhD™

Welcome

Welcome to your new life with Android! dancedroid

What made you want to give up Blackberry? Just about every BB owner I know says they wouldn't switch for the world. (But also just about every BB owner I know thinks there's no way anything could be better than their BB.)

I hope you enjoy your new Droid 2 and the forums here. There's a lot of really great people that will help you out with whatever they can.

Thank you for the warm welcome, Freelancer.

The answer to your question was a simple one: It was just time.

It isn't that I was unhappy with my BB. It was a fantastic device and served me well but with the exception of e-mail it didn't feel as capable. We've witnessed a new era of mobile device come in and the BB, even the Torch, didn't move forward with the times.

Besides, from everything I've been reading these Droid phones are capable of bringing you the same experience and a little more. And that simply can't be beat.

It's cool that you kept an open mind about your smartphone. I myself went through two iPhones before I got my Droid 1, and a lot of people I know were shocked that I would give up my iPhone. I simply explained that my loyalties lie with the best product available, and I firmly believe that nowadays it's more about the OS than the hardware itself (in most cases).

That being said, I was actually wiping my iPhone 3G to give to a friend and was reflecting on how since getting my Droid I haven't once wished I hadn't made the switch.

I hear some really great things about the Blackberry, especially keyboard wise and securitywise, but it seems to me that the Blackberry is a lot more corporate and business oriented: it may not do everything other smartphones can do, but what it does do it does them extremely well. One major problem I had with Blackberry and why I wouldn't ever get one is having to pay for their e-mail service. Is that still how they do things? I assume it would be possible now at least to use the data connection to load up gmail or another non-BB account?

Also, I'm very interested in how you'll adapt to Android and what you'll think of it after getting used to it and using it for a while, and how you think it compares to BB, so please keep us updated!

Welcome! Glad to have you join us. This is an excellent site to share information and learn about the Droid. If you have questions post and the community will respond. The FAQ section in the Forum is an great place to start.
