Here's some numbers for you folks. Andy Rubin confirmed via Twitter that 3.7 Million Android phones were activated on December 24th and 25th. As some of you may recall Google said that there are now more than 700,000 Android devices activated per week and with these new figures that numbered has more than doubled over the course of 2 days. Pretty incredible to say the least.

Along with Apples great numbers, Flurry Analytics reports that with combined activations of iOS and Android handsets a new record has been set with a 353% increase in activations on a single day. To say the smartphone wars is heating up at a rapid pace is an understatement.

I wonder if all these new activations are because people love Android, or if it's because of the lack of very nice, feature rich Basic phones being abandoned for inexpensive Android alternatives by cellular carriers (hint: Verizon).

I'd be willing to bet that a sizable portion of that 3.7 million figure consists of Kindle Fire activations.

It may be a misstatement but it says 3.7 million phones in that 48 hours but 700,000 devices weekly.
