2.3 for Dx?

So I have to ask this.. i keep seeing DX release of Android 2.3... and the D1 uses 2.2 so what is the big difference if any? Of course I man in the OS and not in the numbering scheme. I mean last I heard Android was going straight for 3.0 after 2.2...

2.3.15 is just the build. its still 2.2

From what I have heard after 2.2 comes 2.5 which will be GingerBread and then 3.0 will be HoneyComb but as of now it's anybody's guess
