Unable to add new notification tones

I recently noticed a problem with my notification tones. The problem is that I can still add new ringtones to my ringtone folder, but any file I place in the notifications folder doesn't actually show up on my phone. I've tried multiple extensions but it's always the same result.

Funny thing is that I still have my old tones, I just can't add any new ones, yet my ringtones folder is as simple as drag and drop.

For what it's worth, I noticed this problem after updating to 2.2

Anybody have an idea what's going on? Or a similar problem to mine? Any help or input is welcome.

When looking into the folders of my sd card, I noticed that I had 2 folders called notifications. When I moved the tones from one to the other, they appeared in the list and I was able to select it.
