The Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 has to be one of the most popular mid tier smartphones on the market right now. It has had an unlocked bootloader for a few weeks, but has yet to be rooted until now. The reason for no root is that the device requires a bit of trickery to enter fastboot mode. Developers "Frankee207, DallasCZ, and Gynoid" in a collaborative effort have come up with a method for rooting this device. The method is inspired by another known method for another device, but the process has been altered to make this all work with the Idol 3.

Now that root is available the community has been able to provide dumps of the boot and recovery images. This means we should have a working custom recovery like TWRP for the device soon. The exploit is for Windows PC only at this point, and you will need to already have the Idol 3 drivers installed on your device PC for this to work. Head to the link below for full detailed instructions.
