Is there an app that can just restart the one app? (like text messaging)

You might go to Task Manager and end whatever app you want. It'll either restart on its own or when you open it again.

I've had this happen (very rarely - maybe once a month). If I rotate the phone from portrait to landscape then I can type. And after I start typing a word or two I'm able to rotate it back and it will keep working.
