text messaging auto complete

Suddenly when composing text messages the auto complete function shows under the message box, I know this was normal for when you are using the touch screen. However it is doing it when I am using the keypad. I had turned off the function in settings and restarted the phone with no changes to the problem. Any suggestions. Thanks
