I looked at this deal, but i don't like the fact that you don't get the $500.00 up front, even though you have to give them your phone up front. They just take $500.00 off your bill, in monthly installments. They still want that $200 and change, plus $30.00 per month.

I traded in a Note 5, and it brought the $30 a month down to $9.

I went to my T-Mobile store, and they said that they would give me $500.00 back on my S7edge, but i had to put $279.00 down. When i told them to take the $279.00 out of the $500.00, they couldn't do it. So i asked for the interest on the $500.00 that they were "holding" for me, and that's when i was politely asked to leave. I like the Note 9, but if i get one, it will be from Samsung, and it will be unlocked.

I understand what you're saying, but $500, is $500, no matter how it's applied. I couldn't pass up $500 in bill credits for my Note 5. The most I could've gotten for it if I sold it out right would've been $150. I'll gladly take a Note 9 for half off.

I wonder if some of this varies from state to state. When we switched to T-Mo a few months back a we traded in my wife's S8 and my Moto Z on two LG G7's. We had to put $30 down for each phone plus in NJ we have to pay the state sales tax up front on the full retail price of both phones. The trade in covered all of it along with a $40 credit on my first bill. We walked out of the store that day with two new phones and $0 out of pocket. The only promo we used was a BOGO on the G7's.
