strange contact sync issue

Hey folks,

I was out around town last night and noticed that my moto droid (for no reason at all, seemingly) spontaneously "forgot" all of my contact names. All my text messages were there, but I just saw the phone numbers rather than the contact names. I also noticed that my call log and contact list were empty.

I tried restarting the phone several times, but it didn't seem to have an effect. Also tried resyncing with gmail/facebook with no effect either.

Then, about 15 minutes later, my contacts started coming back. However, my call log was still cleared. Also, some of my contacts had changed names (seemingly reverting back to some earlier version) and most of my contact pictures (from gmail or facebook) are not being displayed, despite my contacts including gmail/facebook accounts in their listings.

Any ideas folks?

I guess I should also point out that I'm running 2.1 and have not rooted my phone.

I had the same thing happen to my phone, however, I was able to sync my phone and retrieve the contacts.
