Here's a strange bit of "rumint" this Monday morning. Supposedly, the new HTC M7 camera will not come with a traditional 13MP camera as earlier rumors have suggested, and will instead have a 4.3MP camera. Now, of course, your initial shock and dismay is to be expected; however, there is more to the intel than just that. This isn't any ordinary 4.3MP camera, and instead will be called an UltraPixel camera. This new camera sensor tech reportedly takes three total 4.3MP images and combines them into one move vivid and sharper image. Here's a quote with some additional detail,

The technique, similar to that used by Sigma in the Foveon X3 sensor, means that three lots of data can represent one final pixel. All that extra data can be intelligently "combined" to generate a crisper, cleaner image and - in the case of the Foveon sensor - better colour accuracy.

If you do the math, then a 4.3MP camera multiplied by 3 would be roughly equivalent to 13MP, so perhaps that's how they are getting to that. Ultimately, for most folks, it likely doesn't matter how the technology handles the job, as long as it takes great pictures! Of course, this is just a rumor, but we will keep you informed if it gets confirmed.
