Back in the day one of the main reasons people would root their phone was to take advantage of custom themes. These days you can theme your device with launchers and app themes. Some OEMs took advantage of the craze and built in themes to their software. Android will also have full themeing capabilities without root in Android O. This includes framework and system UI! The video above shows how this will work.

That's cool...that's cool...but another reason to root is so that you can:
    1. circumvent tethering checks from the carrier.
    2. edit files in the android data directory
    3. backup apps with data
    4. install cool extensive modules using apps like Xposed.
    5. PWN your PHONE.

The XPrivacy module for Xposed is alone worth my staying on Marshmallow until Xposed for Nougat or Oreo is released, let alone rooting my phone. It's awesome.
