Anyone know a way to get rid of the sync icon without factory reset?

Moto is telling people that the sync icon will go away in 24 hours after the Gingerbread update.

Can you provide a reference? I'm not seeing that anywhere.

I rather wouldn't have to do a factory reset. It was a nightmare losing my app data after a hardware failure. I don't want to do it again.

Wait, just over time? I just got the update last night at about 11:30PM and it hasn't gone away unless I force close the Contact Sync, only to reappear moments later. How long did it take to go away? Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

I found a fix. The issue seems to be with accounts that you already have that utilize the sync function in some way. Many people report that this occurs with Yahoo! accounts and Corporate Sync accounts. Simply remove the accounts from your phone, reboot, and readd them. Worked for me.
