I am looking for a app that can tell me how larger a file will be for xMP files. So I can find out how many can fit on a HD or how much space x amount of photos would take.

Actual file size is going to depend on content and compression.

I do understand that. I am just looking for a basic calc, the way Sandisk and other flash mem vendors display a xMP Camera & xGB card can hold x # of Pics.

It's a complete guess. Just like "how many songs will fit in 2GB?" There ate so many variables it's pointless.

Just use the half number of the mp you are using represented in MB. Like everyone else said, it's just an estimate. So if you're shooting 8mp, then the file size should be around 4MB. Again, this is just rule of thumb depending on compression and any additional data placed into the file such as location or audio.
