lesson learned

tried to be cheap and avoided getting a car mount for my phone

disaster recently struck: picked up the device to check the gps and veered off course and damaged my car

now thank god I didn't hit anyone else and that no one was harmed

but its time to get the mount. anyone know if the vzw mount accomodates a phone with a seidio innocase?

thanks

and be safe out there! (all it takes is a split second, I can only imagine the horrors that await people who text and drive...)

the VZ mount accomodates a naked droid. however, seidio has a car mount that will allow you to have a seidio case attached.

Today 09:23 PM rustynail09 LOL, I'm amazed at the people who do not read opening pages on GPS's that say to use with extreme caution!
Lol you guys -

I don't know anything about the Seidio case, but I got the WZW car mount, that comes with a hard case ... it all works fine.

Do you need it to be an actual mount that changes the state of your phone, for example place it into Car Home or do you just want something to hold it in place so you can see the screen?

I use something very similar to this. What I have is not exactly the same as the device shown in the link but it works the same way. With the way I have the phone mounted it is right below my line of vision. Only takes a very quick glance to check where I am and my eyes are right back on the road again. No more of a distraction from driving than checking my instrument panel. Couple that with muscle memory and I don't even have to be looking at the screen to do things like mute or unmute the GPS. Oh, and, this kind of car mount will work with any phone case.

For me personally, I don't see any benefit to having the phone go into Car Dock mode. I also find that the GPS Navigation is most useful to me when the phone is oriented in Portrait mode. When I am trying to navigate somewhere I don't care what is to either side of me, I want to see more of the road ahead. Portrait mode works perfectly for that.

Don't forget to check the Accessories subforum.

I've always had my cars outfitted with suitable vehicle mounts (typically Panavise which are about as secure as it gets) and ProClip device mounts. The latter do not work with cases though.

My mounts don't have magnets but I do find the car dock useful. The large buttons and simplified interface are a plus IMO. Having the voice search button right there is very handy since it handles most of my needs in the car. Of course, YMMV.
