Is unlocked phone worth it?

So I see best buy allows one to purchase an unlocked phone. What are the pro and con's?
Why are not more folks buying an unlocked? Will Verizon not enable it?

Unlocked phone will work on all networks so it's a plus for those looking to just pop in sim and use on network..if you decide to leave for another carrier you have no restrictions.. It should have less bloatware than carriers as they include their own apps pre-installed.. I have noticed better deals when you get a phone for specific carrier though.. BestBuy is currently not offering discounts on the unlocked version but deals on the others like Verizon.. Sprint and AT&T.. Updates have been iffy with unlocked although you would think they get quick updates but somehow it's has not been the case..
