Pretty good start. Like the screencaps. Would like to see one with feature comparisons of like apps by category.

I think a lot of those "essentials" are really "nice to have" apps. It's a nice list though and brought a couple of apps to my attention that I'd like to check out further. Thanks the link.

I agree. I have a ton of apps but a few I would say are essential are:

Contact Owner - Why isn't this part of the OS?
Mobile Defense - Excited to see them making headway with CDMA
Google Voice - Free visual voicemail among many other great things.
Astro - No idea why a file manager wasn't part of the OEM phone.

Not really essential apps... but an interesting list non the less. At least it'll bring attention to some of these apps... and hopefully to the Android platform... so we can all benefit!

Not a bad start, but I don't know about essential....Then again not too many are. But that has yet to stop me for downloading them. ;)

Hey qwopzxnm, never seen Contact Owner app before. Very Cool Thanks

Hi Leeches. Glad you like it! I still can't believe that it's not part of the OS or the phone to begin with.

I'm hoping that Android will be similar in evolution to firefox, where apps or extensions that become very popular are eventually just built into the program itself.

Going to give Layar Reality a try (never heard of it). Will also give Places a try (been using Where and SuperPages thus far).

Pkt Auctions is the best for eBay.
My tracks is excellent for tracking bike rides or hikes.
Quick Uninstaller is very handy to get rid of apps.
Ringer Toggle widget is an easy way to switch between ringer profiles.
Backgrounds is a great app that will auto switch your background pic.
Pure Calendar app is the best I have seen..worth the cost.
Better keyboard is cool because of all the skins it has available to customize your keyboard.

This list lost its legitimacy when it listed the native facebook app as one of the essential apps.
