For most of us Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users especially those of us with the Verizon variant, Root was just a vague memory from fun times of devices past. Verizon and AT&T have locked down all their devices making them nearly impossible to root and rom over the past few years. This has been especially true for Samsung devices. For the most part other devices by LG, HTC and even Motorola have still been hackable for the most part. Those of us on Samsung devices have pretty much found ways to get through life without root.

This year the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge came to the US market with a Snapdragon processor. It was assumed that the T-Mobile variant would come bootloader unlocked and would have lots of Rom support since Cyanogen supports Qualcomm devices, but not Exynos devices. In a surprise move Samsung decided to lock down all carrier versions of the device. We have not had root for any variant since release.

This year I have not even really kept an eye on root progress for the Verizon S7. I just figured it would never happen. Over the holiday weekend root was released for all US Snapdragon versions of the S7 and S7 Edge! The process involves flashing an engineered custom boot image, then installing Super SU via command prompt. The process should take you no more than five minutes head to the link below for full instructions.
