Email not making sound, but is vibrating and displaying notification

The thread title says it all, when I get an email, a notification pops up in the status bar and it vibrates, but it doesn't make a sound, which I would like. I was initially using the Yahoo Mail app, where an incoming email would cause the phone to vibrate and display the notification, but no sound. So I tried the pre-installed Email app, where the exact same problem occured. In both instances, I made sure the settings within the app and the settings on the phone directed an audible vibrating notification, and the volume was up all the way, but I still can not get the sound to work. Text messages notification work fine. Any suggestions?
