Droid 2 Physical Keyboard Problem

I have been using my Droid 2 R2-D2 for over a year and half now and I have only had some minor problems. But all of the sudden whenever I slide out the physical keyboard, the touch screen freezes and is unable to be used. I haven't had a bad drop or any water damage recently, so I'm not sure why this is happening. Any one have this problem or know how to fix it before I try a reset?

Chances are, the flex cable has become worn causing the screen to "freeze".
