That functionality is not built in by default. But I believe I saw an app yesterday specifically for the Droid that can accomplish this.

That's the great thing about Android. It's all possible.

Doesn't appear in market, when using QR code it says not found. No search finds it either.

pope, those use the LCD and not the flash from the camera. still, it helps when walking around the house at night or in other situations. even came with a strobe feature :icon_ banana:

Bump. Perhaps someone else might know.

Also, since I'm here. What's that app lets you know when you get messages or calls? Like it appears on the screen.

    Thanks

As far as the flashlight, I'm doing the best I can to get an application developed for that purpose. That's my first priority. Sad, right? It's totally necessary though!

As for the text message popping up, try SMS Popup.

its funny how popular a topic this is on many websites. I came to the conclusion yesterday that you would have to trick the phone into thinking it was autofocusing or capturing to get the led to fire. the api's getSupportedFlashModes() doesn't return the TORCH or RED_EYE modes, and it looks like the led doesn't work at all in the camcorder mode. Im starting to think we may be waiting for an update before this is possible, but I hope some hax0r proves me wrong.

Same conclusion 1033. There isn't API support to control the flash. Perhaps Android 2.1 will add it in as more and more devices are going to add flashes to their phones. I gotta say this dual LED thing is bright. It could work very well as a simple LED flashlight for a few feet or so in front of you. Wouldn't expect it to replace my small multi-LED 3xAAA battery flashlight tho. But in a pinch, it could be helpful.

Search the market for torch. First result is mototorch led. It allows the flash to be used as a flashlight. Also allows it to strobe.
