Application dock

I just noticed this in my widgets, so I had to try it. What does it do? And how do I get rid of it now? If I long press on it it won't do anything so I can't grab it and put it in the trash. WTF? Someone please explain...

Ha, i found that if you long press on the edge you can move it, but I still don't know what it does? I can put my apps on it, but what's the purpose?

It comes with GDE, and you can load up your application icons (not for widgets) on it and slide through all the icons you would keep on your desktop.

Ahh ok, I got it, but this seems rather pointless as I can have up to 7 screens on GDE. And I have about 20 apps that I have added and still have plenty of room, would you even be able to fit enough apps on the phone to necessitate such a need? I guess I can see it as a short cut if you didn't want to scroll through a bunch of screens, I guess it's just another way to customize GDE...
