Zork??

Heya everyone!
Ok, so yeah, I know I am old - anyway... a ways back, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I played a really cool text-based game called Zork. There have been many, many sequels and imitators, but the original Zork is just in a class by itself IMO.

I would like to play it on the Droid - but I am not having a lot of luck. I thought I struck gold when I found an app called "Twisty" in the Market - but you have to download the game (Zork) separately. Not a big deal, but I have been unable to find it. Twisty gives two links - one does not seem to have Zork, the other seems to have it in every format EXCEPT one that Twisty will see.

I guess I might want to mention, that this is in no way a "warez" thing - Zork is pretty old, and available for free all over the internet... just so far I cant find a Droid version.

Ok, so the point of my post is this: Does anyone know of a Droid version of this game? I would be most grateful!

Take care,
Rob

What you're really looking for is a zMachine interpreter. That exists on most platforms as freeware, but I haven't yet seen it on Android. I've looked. Were this to be created (and shouldn't be too hard with the abundance of existing source code), we'd be able to enjoy not only all of the Zork games but a ton of other Infocom games and others that used the engine. I'd love to see it as well. Too bad I'm not a software developer or I'd think about taking some of the source code and doing this. If anyone does know where I haven't looked, please speak up. EDIT: I didn't look hard enough before. Look for "twisty" on the market. It has a couple of games built-in but not Zork... I'm sure with a bit of work you could find the needed data files for that. They would go on your sdcard.

Cool. Ill have to check this out. Are the old King's Quest games by Sierra considered text based? Those were my favorite as a kid. I'd love to give those a spin again. You also have reminded me of Monkey's Island. Wonder if scummvm is available for Droid yet. Then ther is Beneath a Steel Sky. Ur Quan Masters. Oh so many old games to relive...

ZMPP for Kindle Fire HD

I recently found ZMPP in the Droid app store thru the Kindle Fire HD. So far I've only played mini Zork I but the description sounds perfect.

Scumm VM is available for Android now. Though I don't know that it's officially supported. On tablets I would think it'd be awesome, phones I think the screen would be too small depending.
