The easiest way to unlock the bootloader unlock and root your Nexus device is to use the Wugfresh Nexus Root Toolkit. It is so easy to use because you don't have to go scour the forums for the proper files needed to factory reset or root your nexus. All files are hosted and can be downloaded directly from the toolkit. The toolkit has seen lots of tweaking and changes over the past few months leading up to the official release of Lollipop and the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9. The latest version of the toolkit brings it up to v1.9.3. It adds an additional user option for updating the the latest beta versions of SuperSU, plus an option for installing SuperSU pro. Other changes include a cleaning of the script to remove an outdated Philz Recovery, a bug fix which takes away a message box crash, and some additional optimizations in preparation to support the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 once they are released. If you have not already downloaded the toolkit head to the link below to do so.
