WiFi mystery

When it rains... Happened to me just recently.
DID NOT HAVE THE NOTIFY ME BOX CHECKED, WIFI
TURNED OFF, ETC.
Plus, Chrome/Web pages have frozen up today.
Many times, and my browser is much slower.
Have cleared the cache.. Nothing else has changed.
Location, signal, same... No new apps.
For those with Notify Me for WiFi signal checked,
why would this happen out of nowhere? Does not make
sense.

Have you turned off chrome sync? Also their is a crash notification that enables WiFi connection to report. You can also shut that off.

If it's not HD it might as well be a newspaper.

Just check and my WiFi has been active for 7 seconds in the last 3 hours, always shuts off though.

Chrome shows up as its own battery usage entry. However, recently I changed "Pre-load webpages" (in Bandwidth Management) to Always. So, I changed that back to Never and changed the Send Error Report. But I doubt that will make any difference. I'd be willing to bet that this is either a JB 4.1.1 or a specific app bug. Idk, maybe it is Chrome.

I know my chrome synced all the time sucking up data and battery, as did backup assistant. Like I said my WiFi turns on 6 or 7 times only for about 2 seconds every time. Can't put my finger on it but it's nowhere like you guys are experiencing.

If it's not HD it might as well be a newspaper.

Can't complain, you're right. I get 2 days 9 hours average, but my phone is idle all weekend long pretty much. 2 days would probably be average discounting Saturday and Sunday.

If it's not HD it might as well be a newspaper.

Probably, have you tried to uninstall a few apps at a time to check for a rouge app?

Yeah I froze some WiFi apps like Open Signal & WiFi Analyzer. But since I changed the Pre-load Webpages in Chrome settings the WiFi usage percentage seems to be going down.

So I clicked on my battery usage circle and it says I've been running WiFi for over 3 hours but I haven't even turned it on all day and I don't have any smart actions that do. What is going on? It's using my battery and I don't even want it on.

Go into SmartActions and in Settings, there's an option for it to use wifi for location based services even when it's turned off. Uncheck. That put a stop to that phantom wifi battery use nonsense for me.

Yeah I had already had that disabled in my settings for Smartactions. But my WiFi hasn't consumed any battery since I made the Pre-load webpages in Chrome.

Open Wi-Fi, select menu (3 dots lower right), click advance(should be the only bright one), long press keep WiFi on during sleep, select never. Hope this helps.

Jesus you guys are so lucky. I can barely get 1 day 8 hours out of mine...

I tried that but then it gave me an error message for my Home smart action and it said it needed to be on so it can know when I'm home.

Do without it for now and I'm sure you'll see that's the cause of the wifi battery usage. Then I guess it'll be a cost/benefit decision for you if you think a location based smartaction is worth it.
