I thought that if you had wifi enabled, 3g would not be active? I currently have both icons showing in my status bar.... Is this ok? am I wasting battery, or do I need to toggle 3g off?? thanks for any info!!

I have the same thing. Pretty sure its just a glitch displaying both icons but only wifi working. I did have issues with them fighting before I turned on data roaming. After that, wifi took over just fine. However, if I reboot and connect straight to wifi,3g icon doesn't show until after I leave home and 3g turns on. Then both icons stay on. Not sure if data roaming was a coincidence, but the fight between the two ended after I turned data roaming on.

I also haven't noticed an increase in battery consumption with both icons being on.

More about this, though I am on wifi apps like 'files' don't see me on wifi. I know I'm on wifi as I am downloading at 16 megabits and uploading at like 3 megabits. But ' files' doesn't see it as wifi and I have both wifi and 3g icons on the status bar. Gonna find a 3g toggle widget for the desktop.

You are lucky: I turned on data roaming but WiFi still doesn't work even though the Droid X shows that it's active with a strong signal. This, BTW, is familiar: the 1st Droid had the same problem...

After leaving my house, connecting to 3g and coming back to wifi, they began fighting again. I just updated and hope to see it work tomorrow when I get back from work.
