Here's an interesting surprise from out of left field. Supposedly, the WhatsApp messaging service may have recently surpassed SMS messages volume globally. Recently, while speaking at a DLD conference in Germany, WhatsApp's CEO Jan Koum, shared that WhatsApp has hit over 50 Billion messages per day. This figure includes 36 Billion outbound and 18 Billion inbound messages. This number is likely higher than the total global SMS messages that move each day. Koum also shared that WhatsApp is now used by more than 430 Million active monthly users.
Mobile analyst Benedict Evans shared this in a Tweet (shown above). These figures got curious here at HQ... which of these two messaging technologies do our members prefer? To that end, we have included a poll. Please share whether you use SMS based messaging or WhatsApp, (or other).
