Perhaps a better topic to occupy the minds of those awaiting this up grade is whether the hardware platform it will be running on then has any significant differences as compared to the G1? If it does then that makes the wait all the more worthwhile. If not then it is only a short wait to achieve parity with the new entry into the smartphone race.
Much of the whinning in this forum seems to be over relatively minor issues or temportary shortcomings or things of trivial importance that someone has become enamored of. If it is really of critical importance to you to have some specific, obscure music playing feature or TV watching app, then go buy the phone that does that and be done with it. This phone does lots of things very well and many things that other phones can't do. It will get better over time, as apps migrate to it. Some phone will be able to overcome their limitations, no matter how many apps they get.
2.1 is not yet Open Source from Google, should be released any day... then Motorola needs to do testing with it on the Droid before they can release it. These things take time.

Ahhhhh Grasshopper. Press your fingertips together and take a deep breath.
Now exhale. Now go outside for a walk and leave your droid at home for awhile.
Watch the sunset or the moon rise.
On the Google Android site, this item is still marked as an enhancement. That is because it is not something that was part of the spec of the OS that was missed or implemented incorrectly. It was a conscious deferral/descope to a future release.
You'll see all sorts of people spitting all over their posts there about how Google is causing them to break the law and endanger their family. The status remains enhancement meaning that this is a planned omission.
Purely speculating, that could mean that they have deferred call initiation in Bluetooth until after the next enhancement revisions to voice command in general. While there are some spotty voice command capabilities in 2.0, there are gaps when compared to much older mobile operating systems that are, granted, in their ninth or tenth generation.
That's just it. It never ends. As I have said before in other threads we go through cycles and there is 4 of them. 1. Excitement over getting a new OS. 2. Complaints about the new OS. 3. Acceptance of the new OS and finally 4. Anticipation of the next OS. We currently are on #4. And as you can see it will start all over again. It's the nature of the beast.
BTW if the OP is "tired" of waiting as someone else mentioned he should test his patience with a Blackberry Storm. Official OS releases are far and few between, and from what I've seen here with Droid releases are very quick.
In any case the next rumored date for the release is still 11/22. Figure the initial release will probably go out a week before with everyone getting it by or around the rumored date. So yes, be patient.

Great points hookbill. Personally I find posts like the OP highly annoying... If they are that excited and impatient than they should run a cooked ROM or build their own... I personally have no trouble with waiting. As your 2nd point states there will be "complaints about the new OS" and the more they rush the release the more problems there will be. I prefer them to take their time and minimize complications. Even then I probably won't accept the OTA immediately. I need my phone and all it's core functions for work, so I'll wait to see how many things the release breaks before I accept it.
This is why forums are both a blessing and a curse. We are privy to info LONG before anyone else therefore people feel like they are tired of waiting.
MOST people have no clue what 2.1 is and are not even aware. They'll wake up one day with the prompt to install an update, reboot and say "What the heck happened to my phone?! It's all different now. Wow this is cool."

Great point cerealkiller. I'm actually surprised that the Droid and other devices don't have more forum users. I've joined several Droid/Android Forums and neither of them have high numbers considering the number of devices that are out there. I would have thought people using the Droids would be more prone to Forum/online use seeing they are generally the 'early adopters' in the market segment and normally more involved and interested in things like this. With 25K members this board alone has less the 25% of the Moto Droid devices sold in the first month alone.
Even though I don't post much on here, I am on daily and love the info on the site. I am really tired of all the complaining that goes on about this phone. I'm only 33 and remember a time when we didn't know what a cell phone was. Hell I thought I was hot stuff in High School, when I had a numeric pager "01134." What I can do with this phone is amazing, and I will have patience waiting on the new update to come out.
