You are most likely running 2.3.3 Gingerbread, if you took the update. Is the top of your phone(where the battery and signal bar are)white or dark blue/black? If it's dark blue/black, you are on Gingerbread. If it's white it's 2.2.1 Froyo. Go to settings, go to the bottom where it says "about phone", and look where it says "Android version".
Also, the 2.3.340 is the Froyo build. You need to be on that, rooted, and install the Droid 2 bootstrap to install the two part zips and you'll have rooted Gingerbread.
