What keeps Marketplace Safe?

Still havn't made the plunge in getting a droid, but inch closer and closer to the purchase.

Question; Since Android is open source, allowing anyone to really make any type of app, what keeps the Marketplace safe from apps that contain a virus, malware, etc.?

If anyone could describe the security the actual Marketplace has, the ANdroid 2.0 software, and/or the phone itself.

Thanks! :greendroid:

There's heavily armed guards posted at every entrance to protect the market.

At the very least, people can report an app as malicious and presumably Google will investigate. Also you can read comments that people have posted after installing the apps. I suppose there is a small amount of risk if you are the very first to install a new app.

I'm using an app called, "Look Out", which scans each apps for viruses as they download. Seems to work pretty good but hasn't found any problems yet for me to test how that end of it works.
