What happens when we get gingerbread?

Will it break root? Will roms still work? I am guessing we would have to wait for developers to update their roms right?

Roms will probably be updated for gingerbread before you officially get it. At least that's the hope. And since it hasn't been released yet we don't know if it will break root.

Only time will tell! I just hope that the copy and paste improvements make it close to or similar to the iphone copy and paste.

is it possible that ROM makers will get out a gingerbread version beforeit even comes out for the droid 2 since the gingerbread SDK is already out?

It will likely take some time and may require the source to drop but yes. You should be seeing gb roms before the official release.

We will still be able to root and I base this because every time before we get the same question and eventually we are able to root. Eclair has been rooted, froyo, gingerbread, and I think so on and so on..... now it may take a few.
