Weird "no service" issue

Ever since the update for the Droid 3, my phone has been acting up in terms of service.

When I press the power button to wake the phone up, I have no 3G or 1x symbol by the service bars in the top right. This lasts 30-45 seconds AFTER I slide the lock screen to access the phone. So essentially, I don't have service when waking the phone up and have to wait 30 seconds or so.

Any ideas on what happened in the update?

Under settings->Battery & Data Manager->Battery Mode, do you have the phone set to "Maximum battery saver"? I think that turns off networking after 15 minutes of inactivity. That's one thing that I could think has happened.
