weird icon

please forgive me as i am new to the world of driod, but i have an unidentifiable icon. It is next to the 3G icon and it is a circle made up of 2 arrows... it looks like maybe a sync icon, however it hasn't gone away since earlier today.. perhaps almost 12 hours.. any advice would be appreciated. thank you

It is a sync icon. Don't know why it would be on for 12 hours though. If mine shows up for more than 30 seconds I'm confused. Haha
