Hi, all. First off, greetings. First post here, but I've been a lurker for awhile.
Here's the deal, I upgraded to the Droid Razr when it became available. Since then, I have had 2 replacements believe it or not, both through Asurion. Both times the phone simply stopped working. Anyway, because I had 2 claims in a year, Asurion dropped me. The other night I was working and had to direct traffic in the rain. Not a big deal usually, and I never get too wet doing it. My phone is in a rubber case, and that, in turn, was inside a leather carrier on my duty belt. On top of it, I was wearing a raincoat, so there's no reason to think the phone could've gotten wet, with the exception of a 2 minute period I was outside without the coat on. I came across this site, ( Motorola Droid RAZR Teardown - iFixit ) showing where the water indicators are inside the phone and I decided to take a look. I gently removed the bottom of the rear case just enough so that I could see inside the phone, and sure enough, the water damage indicator sticker is all red, showing water damage. Now this phone is supposed to be "water-resistant", so I don't see how being in the rain for 2 minutes, inside 2 separate cases, AND under a poncho, could allow enough water to get in, but is it possible that the constant in and out of my police car from A/C to the FL humidity day after day triggered the sticker? Even so, would that be enough to make these phones stop working? I REALLY don't want to spend $649.99 on a new phone, but, even more so, I would hate to replace the phone at full retail value, only to have the same problem occur again down the line. Help me out here, guys. I briefly considered simply sending this phone back to Asurion saying it stopped working, but if they open the phone, and I'm sure they will, they'll see the sticker and charge me. While I honestly feel that this is no fault of my own, I'm also not about to commit fraud by sending the phone in under a false pretense.
Rock. Me. Hard place.
