Wallpaper cropping

No matter how I edit an image, it seems that the wallpaper selector wants me to crop it. My images are 960x854. What gives?

Press and hold a corner in the selection screen and drag it as far to the edges as possible. That should select the entire wallpaper.

No problem. The method is a holdover from the days when the Gallery app didn't support multi-touch.
