v2.3.340 update

I had my phone rooted and v2.3.340 update popped up i accepted and showed it installed phone shut off and showed it updating and restarted i went to about phone and under system version is shows Version 2.3.340.mb810
now i see my phone is no longer rooted i tried to run a app that was for rooted phone but says i need to root

what i am wanting to know is what does the update change someone said it changes the market if it does mine did not change and what is another way of checking to see if the install took properly ?

Sounds like the update took. You just have to re root.

What is this update though? 2.3.xxx, is that Gingerbread?

Its not gingerbread. Gingerbread is android os 2.3 this is just a system update of 2.3. Its still in the android 2.2.1 os
