Using the PC to add contacts etc.

It depends. Have your contacts been backed up in your Google account? Those can be edited from a laptop, if you're signed in to your account.

Yeah, I learned my lesson on that one. I had all my contacts on my Droid Incredible before it became a water brick. But I only had them on my phone storage and lost them all.

Then I realized my google contacts synced right to my phone and backed up online. Now when I move over to a new device when my upgrade comes due in a month I'll have access to all my contracts instantly upon signing in to my google account. No need for transfers or anything! And just log into gmail to update your contracts on your PC in your gmail account. Anything else would be way to much work.

Backup

To back up your contacts and programs, etc., go to the System Settings, and under Personal, select Privacy, and you will see a list of things that are for Backup and Restore. Make sure to check Back Up My Data, also have your backup account listed (should be a gmail account) and check Automatic Restore.
