usb pdanet tether

I just got my son a droidx. He is ih the USAF but cannot get internet access in his dorm. He has a new laptop with Windows 7. I would like to be able to send him a stpes on how to use the droid as an internet gatewy for his pc? Does anyone have those steps?

Is he rooted? If so, then he can use wireless tethering (app in market) If he is not rooted, then PDAnet is an option. PdaNet -- USB Tether/Bluetooth DUN for Android
