Anyone tried charging their Droid via a USB 3.0 port? I have an open 3.0 port and I think it puts out 900 mAmps where the standard wall charger is 850 mAmps.

BTW, if you've got a device that supports it (like a newer external HD), I'd highly recommend USB 3.0. I copied a bunch of jpeg photos from C drive to external drives. One a Western Digital My Book 1 TB drive on USB 2.0. The other a Western Digital My Book 2 TB drive on USB 3.0. Both hooked up to my computer (Dell XPS 630i).

446 files in 12 folders.
948 MB total.

On drive connected via USB 2.0 it took 1:12.52 to copy to drive.
On drive connected via USB 3.0 it took 18.48 to copy to drive.

That's a lot faster (a quarter of the time or so) and $30 well spent IMO for the 3.0 card.

I've tried to get my USB 3.0 up to that speed, but I'm not there yet. I have a DELL XPS 2820QM 2nd gen and DELL and I have been going around in circles in getting my speed up. I think I can upload to my external hd about 125MB/sec. Wireless, it's like 2.5MB/sec. Let me know more.

a wireless home network (I think you mean sharing files between two devices, but not through the internet) should be able to handle 7 MB/s for 802.11g or 14 for .11n....

yeah but as for the phone? I am not sure that any current phone supports USB3.0...

Does not matter. Your device will pull what it needs. I've used 1A chargers and my car charger is 950mA.

Mb or MB? The latter is 8 times the former.

As for hooking up my phone to it, I was curious to know if it would charge the battery faster as USB 3.0 puts out 900 mAmps where USB 2.0 puts out 500 mAmps (I think).
More current = faster charge.

Can we keep this on track? If you would like to talk about PC's and their USB speeds I can move it to Off-Topic.
