To be honest, im an android n00b but I was able to do the Command Prompt root pretty easily. And I don't plan on installing a custom ROM. I'm satisfied with what Motorola has done.

You don't have to change roms. A lot of us just have the root, deodex, and theme. Some...most I'd say probably just have the root. Truthfully, the chances of bricking on root only are very low. Unrooting is as easy as rooting...try it, you'll like it.

Getting mine tomorrow....

I'm picking up my first Droid phone tomorrow(will be my first smart phone). After scouring reviews and sites like this for phone information, sounds like the DX is a great choice. This also seems like a great site for helpful information for a n00b like myself. Glad you like your new phone and I'm stoked to get mine tomorrow dancedroid.

This is exactly my feelings too. The stock rom is fast and smooth. I rooted so that I can use some additional functions. When I tried another rom I got boot loops and fc's and some lag. That is why I switched from droid 1 in the first place. Enjoy your x!

I rooted mine just for the fact of free wifi tethering.

I just got mine this past weekend and I love the huge ass screen and this by far has WAY BETTER battery life than when I had my Incredible. I had to charge that thing almost 3 times a day but this only once throughout the day and im good to go. Very impressed!! this is a keeper
