Updates are taking forever and a day

My apps never update very quickly but sometimes, it takes literally days for them to update. I don't know what's going on... Help or advice please? Thank you.

P.S. I'm a smart phone newbie so I probably won't understand much of what's said to me. Just assume that I don't know cell phone lingo and stuff.

Have you tried updating them using wifi?

Try going to settings --> applications --> market then clearing the cache/data. This may help.
