[UPDATE] Verizon LTE Smartphone Requirement a Long Way Off

We brought you the story of how Verizon was going to implement a hard requirement that all manufacturers either equip their phones with LTE radios or they can shop their goods elsewhere. That strong statement has prompted a rebuttal from Big Red. Mac Observer wrote yesterday that a reporter of theirs questioned Verizon Representatives about the veracity of this report. While they admit that is the long term goal it is "still along way off."

The Mac Observer article goes into detail and writes:

TMO spoke to several Verizon wireless representatives at CES and asked them the question. The response was, first, they haven’t seen any corporate information to that effect. Or any imposed deadlines. Secondly, they said that while the goal is to have all of its customers on LTE, “that’s a long way off.

The biggest thing I think are the basic and feature phones, which there is no real use for 4G.
 
Basic and feature phones have been progressively losing sales for a long time now. Its only a matter of time before they're all 'smart' capable
