1. What is the file size of lollipop update? and normal android updates? Roughly what is the time taken to update?

2. In "notifications", whenever there is a "software update", it means android updates? It only says "software update", it does not say where is the update from, what version or software....

3. What is the biggest file size of updates that you have come across?

1. Update sizes depend on your phone manufacturer and telecom company. Some manufacturers (cough *Samsung* cough) have updates up to 500mb in size. Others receive smaller sized updates. Usually they are done over the air (OTA).

2. Hard to say. I receive update notifications from Amazon Apps, Google Play, and Samsung Apps. You can go to Settings, General, About and select Software Updates to see if a system update is available. Unfortunately, most of Samsung's system updates leave people guessing as to what they are since Sammy rarely post a change log.

3. Just over 500mb OTA, 6.5gb via Samsung Kies.

Btw, It is a good idea to backup your phone in Samsung Kies before receiving any system updates. Sometimes the updates bring bugs with them.

My guess is Lollypop will be a good size file as it's a complete OS install and not just a fix.

9 times out of 10 a major Android revision will require the update to be performed in Kies.

I never take OTAs (on my phone, on my tablets I do. They aren't mission essential). I always update through my PC. It's a habit I have been clinging on to since the disastrous Galaxy S2 update debacle. I swear not a single OTA on that phone went off without a hitch.

1. Does it mean that for major updates the phone will prompt you to use Kies?

2. Did anyone received lollipop update through phone?

3. How do you update through PC?

4. I am curious why update through PC is better than update OTA on the phone? I thought the update files are the same files, if there are errors or corrupted, both should have problem.

1. Yes.
2. Samsung hasn't released L yet.
3. Plug your phone into your PC and launch Kies. Software update options will be available in the menu. Kies will also prompt you to update if there is one available.
4. I have no idea. I have never had a bad update via PC.
