Unsent msg notification. Wont delete

My wife has a d2g that is stock..not rooted..nothing..she has an unsent message notification. That wont go away. I have deleted all messages. Cleared the cashe. And its still there. But there are no messages at all on it

There are about 4 or 5, maybe more, threads like this in this forum section.
The solution for each one was to install Handcent from the market, delete the problematic request via Handcent, and uninstall it.
