Unable to enter or edit text field in browser?

I started typing text into a message field on this very site on my Droid, closed the keyboard because I had to take care of something and when I went back to it, I was not able to edit text or type anything new into it.

This has happened a few times now. Is there a way to enter/edit text after going back to the home screen or locking the screen? Or is this just the way it is?
