Trying to Sync PhoneBook with car audio

I have a Kenwood DNX6960 in dash GPS/Radio. I can pair the phone but no phone book. On the DroidX I will get an occasional prompt- DNX6960 is requesting phonebook but then it goes away and I do not have the opportunity to select ACCEPT request. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to export the phone book to the car audio unit first? How can I get my phone book contacts into the car audio from the DroidX. My old smart-phone automatically downloaded to the car audio.

I was told by my installer the phonebook wont synch because Verizon's contacts are stored "in the cloud" and not on the phone itself.
I went into contacts and copied them all onto the SD card and have had no errors so far amd all my contacts are now in the stereo.
